Assessment Services

Are you concerned about you or your child’s progress at school? Are you concerned about whether your child’s needs are being fully addressed at school? Are you interested in gaining a deeper understanding of your educational strengths and abilities?

The assessment component of our services addresses school-related issues such as learning disabilities, giftedness, academic skill levels (strengths and weaknesses), intellectual potential, post-secondary school planning, behaviour, development, and ADHD. Our in-depth individual assessments identify areas of strength and challenge in a student’s learning profile. The assessments are designed to assist individuals to reach their full potential and to make realistic and obtainable decisions regarding future education and career paths.

These help to clarify needs by evaluating cognitive potential, learning aptitudes, academic skills, and other factors that influence success at elementary school, secondary school, college, and university. We will identify areas of strength and uncover any specific factors that may be interfering with academic success. Issues related to Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and social/emotional concerns are also addressed. Following the assessment, which is conducted over a number of sessions, we will meet with you to clearly explain the assessment findings, to discuss specific recommendations, to assist with next steps, and to answer any additional questions or concerns that you may have. A comprehensive written report is provided.

Is your child receiving the challenge and stimulation that allows for optimal development and success at school? An assessment will provide you with detailed information about your child’s intellectual and academic abilities. We will meet with you to discuss recommendations as to the best educational program for your child. A detailed written report is provided.

Social/emotional difficulties are also investigated through the assessment process. Challenges such as anxiety disorders, test anxiety, fears, stress, depression, and anger management are evaluated through observation, assessment, and in-depth interviewing.

This involves a detailed medical and developmental history to investigate difficulties in multiple areas of functioning. In addition to an in-depth individual evaluation, questionnaire ratings from parents, teachers, and others help offer more information about challenges in different settings and situations. The assessment includes standardized measurements for identifying autistic behaviours—plus measures of language skills and a comprehensive sensory and motor evaluation. Once problem areas are identified, we can recommend and implement targeted and scientifically supported treatment plans.
