Assessment Services:

assessment

Are you concerned about whether your child’s needs are being fully addressed at school? Are you interested in gaining a deeper understanding of your educational and/or professional strengths and abilities?

The assessment component of our services addresses school-related issues such as learning disabilities, giftedness, academic skill levels (strengths and weaknesses), intellectual potential, post-secondary school planning, vocational planning, and ADHD. Our in-depth individual assessments identify areas of strength and challenge in a student’s learning profile. The assessments are designed to assist individuals to reach their full potential and to make realistic and obtainable decisions regarding future education and career paths.

Psychoeducational Assessments help to clarify needs by evaluating cognitive potential, learning aptitudes, academic skills, and other factors that influence success at elementary school, secondary school, college, university and the workplace.  We will identify areas of strength and uncover any specific factors that may be interfering with learning or occupational success.  Issues related to Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and social/emotional concerns are also addressed. Following the assessment, which is typically conducted over two half-days, we will meet with you to clearly explain the assessment findings and to discuss specific recommendations.  A comprehensive written report is provided.

Gifted Assessments: Is your child receiving the challenge and stimulation that allows for optimal development and success at school?  A half-day assessment will provide you with detailed information about your child’s intellectual and academic abilities.  We will meet with you to discuss recommendations as to the best educational program for your child.  A detailed written report is provided.

Social/Emotional/Behavioural Assessments: Social/emotional difficulties are also investigated through the assessment process. Challenges such as anxiety disorders, test anxiety, fears, phobias, stress, and anger management are evaluated through observation, assessment, and in-depth interviewing.

Psychovocational Assessments: Evaluate learning aptitudes, academic skills, and vocational interests. Through the assessment process we will identify areas of strength and uncover any specific barriers to occupational success. Issues related to Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), cognitive delays, and mental health concerns are also addressed. The assessment typically takes place over two half-days. Once the report is completed a feedback session is scheduled to clearly explain the results and discuss the specific recommendations. A comprehensive written report is provided.

consultation

The consultation component of our services is appropriate when an individual, a school, or another involved professional requires guidance in planning or moving forward with information or plans ( for example next steps). Issues such as appropriate school placement, academic support, interpreting reports, and approaches to dealing with challenges are addressed in the consultation model.

Counseling: Our counseling services include individual, family, and couple therapy. We specialize in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, anger management, behavior management, and social skill development.

Advocating for Students: Our team offers supportive services to students. It is our belief that students are ultimately their own most effective advocates. This skill carries forward into the world of work. It is essential for each individual to have an in-depth understanding of their strengths, their challenges, and the accommodations that they require in order to meet with the greatest success. The assessment and counseling components of our service provides the information and the strategies required in order to assist individuals in developing self-advocacy skills.

Our team is able to act as interim advocates for students and their families in the school environments. We are able to attend and convene meetings with the appropriate school staff in order to share strategies for success. We are able to attend student planning meetings such as Individual Placement and Review Committee (IPRC) and Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings in order to share information and recommendations.

Supporting Social/Emotional and Behavioural Needs: Our team is able to support a wide variety of social/emotional and behavioural challenges. We offer individual sessions and group workshops to address stress management, test anxiety, and social skills development. We conduct stress management groups within school settings for students who are having difficulties balancing the demands of school. We offer coaching services to students who have trouble with organization, homework completion, and time management.
